Herpetology course

Training day entitled: "Amphibians and reptiles of Catalonia, current state and applications in search"

 

During the weekend of April 6 and 7, in the equipment of Fontmartina, took place this course aimed at herpetologists, naturalists, biologists in general and lovers of herpetology. Apart from offering an introduction to the Catalan herpetofauna, it was deepened in the different techniques of search in the study of this group: genetic studies, distribution with GIS tools, field methodology, biosecurity, etc.

As part of this training day, Fèlix Amat gave a talk presenting the Life Tritó Montseny project and this endemic species of Montseny.

On Saturday, at dusk, there was a night out to locate amphibians. The training continued on Sunday and at noon there was a daytime observation of reptiles.

This course was organized by the GRENP (Search Group of the Escola de la Natura de Parets del Vallès). The specialist guides were: Albert Montori (UB), Daniel Fernández-Guiberteau (GRENP), Salvador Carranza (IBE-UPF/CSIC), Fèlix Amat (Museo de Granollers) and Marc Franch (UdG).

It was addressed to the general public, fans of the world of amphibians and reptiles.

Saturday:
09:00 - 10:00 Reception of participants.
10:00 - 11:00 Characteristics of the amphibians to be taken into account for the search (Albert Montori).
11:00 - 11:30 Break.
11:30 - 13:00 Characteristics of the reptiles to be taken into account when searching (Daniel Fernàndez-Guiberteau).
13:00 - 14:00 New strategies in the study of herpetofauna distribution: from atlases to GIS tools (Marc Franch).
16:30 - 17:30 Studies in the field of genetics: practical application of new molecular tools (Salvador Carranza).
17:30 - 18:15 Conflicting cases in the identification of larvae and adults of amphibians (Albert Montori).
18:15 - 19:00 Break.
19:00 - 20:00 Biosecurity, an essential work strategy in the face of current threats (Daniel Fernàndez Guiberteau).
20:30 Departure at night.

Sunday:
09:00 - 10:00 Conflicting cases in the identification of reptiles (Daniel Fernàndez-Guiberteau).
10:00 - 11:00 The herpetofauna in the face of the biodiversity crisis and climate change (Albert Montori).

11:30 - 12:30 The Life Tritó Montseny project (Fèlix Amat).
