Life Tritó Montseny

12th newsletter

18/01/2022 07:57 h.

It brings together news from October, November and December 2021

The most outstanding topic of the last quarterly newsletter of the Life Tritó Montseny project is the celebration, on 24th and 25th November at the Espaci Montseny in Viladrau, of the X Trobada d'Estudiosos del Montseny. Thus, during the morning of the first day there was an exclusive debate on the Montseny newt.

Another relevant news item is the meeting between forest owners and representatives of the various institutions involved in the management of the territory and habitat of the Montseny newt to discuss the conservation of this amphibian on 18 November.

The 12th bulletin also includes news about the arrival of the travelling exhibition "My name is Calotriton and I only live in Montseny!" in November in Sant Feliu de Buixalleu, the only municipality in the Montseny Natural Park and Biosphere Reserve where, due to COVID-19, it had not yet been possible to exhibit it. This brings to a close the exhibition's itinerancy through all the municipalities in the Montseny Biosphere Reserve.

It also highlights the itinerancy until spring 2022 of the same exhibition, on this occasion, through the libraries of the Maresme region, as part of the activities of the joint programme between the Natural Parks Network and the Municipal Libraries Network "Parks and libraries... naturally!

Another of the topics of the 12th newsletter is the 8th technical workshop on the reintroduction and release plan of the Life Tritó Montseny, held with the aim of deciding, by consensus, the strategy to carry out the reintroduction of new populations of the Montseny newt in its natural habitat. The meeting was held in person in the Aviari room of the Barcelona Zoo on 21 October and was attended by twenty-two people from various institutions involved in the Life Tritó Montseny project (GRENP, Centre Tecnològic Forestal de Catalunya, Forestal Catalana, CSIC, Universitat de Barcelona, Chester Zoo, Barcelona Zoo, Generalitat de Catalunya and Diputació de Barcelona).

These and the rest of the news and novelties can be consulted on the project's website (section "Evolution") and in the newsletter history.

The newsletter is published in digital format in Catalan, Spanish and English and is sent quarterly to subscribers. Those interested in receiving it can subscribe by clicking on this link and choose the language in which they would like to receive it.
