Masia Mariona hosts the 4th meeting of hydrologists of the project
Masia Mariona, in the Montseny Natural Park and Biosphere Reserve, hosted the fourth meeting of the group of hydrologists of the Life Tritó Montseny project on 24 March. During the day, several presentations were given and a field trip was organised to see the actions carried out in the area of influence of the Montseny newt.
In the morning, there was a presentation of the latest work carried out within the framework of the Hydrologists' Advisory Committee, with presentations by Jordi Cristóbal (IRTA); Joan Gomà (UB); Jérôme Latron (IDAEA) and Anna Àvila (CREAF), and Cisco Mayorgas (Nestlé Waters). Afterwards, there was a question and answer session and an interesting debate with proposals for the future. In the afternoon there was a field trip to visit the actions carried out so far in the framework of the Life Tritó Montseny project.
The opinion of the hydrology experts provided a new vision of the actions carried out in the area of influence of the Montseny triton and those planned for the near future.
Committee of experts
The need to create a technical working group to study the hydrogeology of the Montseny Natural Park and Biosphere Reserve (included in the Natura 2000 network) arose from the first meeting of the committee of the experts of the Life Tritó Montseny project held on 28 September 2017. At that time, the objectives of the work were to understand the hydrogeological dynamics of the Montseny massif, establish a hydrological monitoring programme and ensure the sustainable use of water. In addition to defining a working group, it was necessary to plan the lines of work to be able to carry out the research projects and reach a consensus on a model defining the hydrological dynamics of the Montseny.
Since then, the project's group of hydrologists has remained active and, to date, four meetings have been held.
