The 30 of March took place the presentation of the project Life Triton Montseny. The act realised to the venue Mariona (Mosqueroles) and assisted all the personnel involved in the project.

Although some of the actions of the Life Tritón Montseny project have already started a few months ago, many are still in the planning phase. For this reason, this day was presented to all the technicians of the territory, both rural and forestry agents and other conservation technicians. The planned actions to be implemented during the project were presented, in order to share the different points of view of all the groups involved. The day revolved around four main objectives:

  • To show the current situation of the Montseny newt, taking stock of its management over the last ten years.
  • To present the Life Tritón Montseny project and the lines of work that have been planned to achieve the objectives set.
  • Promote the exchange of views on the implementation of the project.
  • To promote the professional relationship between all the groups involved, which for four years will share a common objective.

The Life Tritón Montseny project (LIFE15 NATO/SE/000757) started on 1 October 2016. It is expected to run until the end of 2020 with the involvement of four partners: Diputació de Barcelona, Diputació de Girona, Diputació de Catalunya and Zoo de Barcelona. The main objective of the project is to improve the conservation status of the Montseny newt (Calotriton arnoldi). For this reason, actions will be promoted to increase the quality of the riverside habitat and ensure the conservation of the populations of this endemic amphibian of Montseny, as well as to promote environmental education of the natural environment where it lives.
