Land magazine publishes an article on the Montseny newt
The international, multidisciplinary and open access journal "Land" has published an article on the Montseny newt (Calotriton arnoldi). The publication defines the five strategic lines of the Life Tritó Montseny project and presents an evaluation of the actions that have been carried out to improve the habitat of this species, considered "critically endangered" by the IUCN.
The article, entitled "Habitat Management of the Endemic and Critical Endangered Montseny Brook Newt (Calotriton arnoldi)", focuses on this endemic amphibian that inhabits the Montseny Natural Park and Biosphere Reserve.
The five strategic lines of the Life Tritó Montseny project are defined: Increase scientific and technical knowledge on the conservation status of the Calotriton arnoldi and the management of its habitat; Expand its geographical distribution; Involve and engage stakeholders in the conservation of the Montseny newt; Eliminate or minimise existing threats in the riparian habitat; and, finally, Establish legal coverage and define a long-term strategic planning.
Prepared by Daniel Guinart, Sònia Solórzano, Fèlix Amat, Jordina Grau, Daniel Fernández-Guiberteau and Albert Montori, it also presents an evaluation of the actions carried out to improve the habitat of this species, including the necessary considerations for their correct application and success in a natural area under public-private management.
