Forest Catalan
Forestal Catalana, SA (http://forestalcatalana.gencat.cat) is a public company established by agreement of the Government of Catalonia on 19 and 22 December 1987 as a public limited company. Its scope is the whole autonomous community of Catalonia. According to its statutes, its objectives are, among others, the provision of services, technical assistance, the conservation of flora and fauna and the management of the natural environment. It has the capacity to carry out any action related to the water cycle, protection, administration and management of forests and protected natural areas. Among others, Forestal Catalana, SA has experience in the production and sale of plants and seeds for reforestation and environmental restoration. Forestal Catalana, SA can plan, execute, store, use and restore buildings and infrastructures in natural spaces, carry out forestry and reforestation work and fight against erosion. The number of projects carried out annually is around two hundred.
In the area of environmental management, Forestal Catalana, SA is responsible for the management of the fauna centres of Torreferrusa and Pont de Suert, where captive breeding and recovery of endangered and threatened species are carried out. A pilot captive breeding programme for the Montseny newt has been carried out in recent years, which has served to establish the necessary protocols and ensure the viability of the project on a large scale. Forestal Catalana, SA currently has personnel technically prepared to carry out this work, as well as the commitment to continuity expressed by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the owner of the fauna centres.
