5th reintroduction workshop

The 5th workshop to discuss the reintroduction of the Montseny newt took place on 2 March
Within the framework of Action C15 (Identification of potential areas for reintroduction of the Montseny newt), the fifth workshop was held with the aim of deciding, by consensus, the strategy for carrying out the reintroduction of new populations of Montseny newt in their natural habitat.
This time, the meeting took place on Monday 2nd March at Masía Mariona (Fogars de Montclús), Montseny Natural Park and Biosphere Reserve (included in the Natura 2000 Network). The work plan of this 5th workshop was organized in five blocks:
- Presentation of the final results of the assignments carried out throughout 2019.
- Planning of future releases.
- Defining the monitoring of released populations.
- Evolution of the breeding programme.
- Recovery plan for the Montseny newt.
The participants made their contributions and these issues were discussed in relation to the reintroduction of the Montseny newt into its natural habitat. The debate was led by researchers from the Forest Technology Centre of Catalonia and CREAF.
In the afternoon a field visit was made.
The workshop was attended by 20 specialists in the field of research, natural heritage management and administration.
